Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Person reports to: Head Teacher

Overview:

The role of a HLTA is to undertake a range of teaching and learning support activities to help promote effective learning and teaching, under the direction and supervision of the Head Teacher

To join a team offering an individualised curriculum for young people aged between 11-16 years. Our school ethos is to ensure the physical, social, emotional care and development of our young people.

At the heart of our curriculum lies a respect for the subjects we teach and for the insight that each provides into the world around us. We teach our students how to think, how to criticise, how to be active, how to question, rather than passive, recipients of information; but each of these skills are taught within the context of the rich knowledge each subject provides.   By using a thematic basis, we instil in our students the best of what’s been thought, said and done in the modern community and world they must navigate. Our curriculum enables students to appreciate how subjects overlap learning key skills to utilise the subject knowledge in a holistic and real-life way. Participating in the full and meaningful learning journey that includes the richness of the human experience.

Our curriculum has been developed to have real-life flexibility that meets the individual needs of our students whilst enabling them to be part of a learning community without the stigma of gaps in their learning journey thus far.

Main duties:

• Support the activities of individuals or groups (normally up to a group of 6)
• Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups.
• Contribute to Individual Education Plans as appropriate.
• Support pupils during learning activities.
• Use your passion to teach and lead on agreed subjects
• Promote pupils’ social and emotional development, including emotional wellbeing.
• Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils.
• Provide support for bilingual/multilingual pupils (where appropriate to the focus of the role).
• Support pupils with a complex learning profile: special educational needs and disability (for example: cognitive or learning difficulties, behaviour, emotional and social development, Autism Spectrum and other co-morbid conditions)
• Support pupils to develop their literacy and numeracy skills.
• Support pupils to access a broad, balanced and tailored curriculum.
• Track and report on pupil progress.
• Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment.
• Contribute to the management of pupils’ behaviour and the completion of relevant records.
• Contribute to maintaining pupils’ records: daily and weekly handovers; reward system, EPEPs, EHCPs, school reports and LAC reviews.
• Contribute to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all pupils and staff.
• Implement and adhere to all relevant Safeguarding policies and protocols
• Complete and contribute to general administrative duties to support pupils’ learning.
• Complete daily pupil records
